Chiropractor in Fanwood Explains If Your Hip Condition Contributes to Your Back Pain
After reviewing the charts of 273 consecutive seniors who consulted with a spine surgeon regarding their back pain, researchers found that half had greater trochanteric pain syndrome (GTPS), also known as hip bursitis.
Further analysis found no difference in lower back, buttock, thigh, or groin pain between those with or without GTPS. Additionally, half of the GTPS patients reported their symptoms improved after receiving treatment on their hip.
The authors conclude that this hip condition is a very common and often unrecognized or misdiagnosed ailment.
They add that accurate diagnosis and differentiation of greater trochanteric pain syndrome from lumbar spinal pathologies is essential to avoid unnecessary spinal procedures.
