Fanwood Chiropractor Explains How Backpacks Place Strain on School Children
Among a group of twelve male pre-teens, researchers found that when the load of a child's backpack exceeds just 15% of their bodyweight, it results in muscular and postural changes that may increase the risk for back pain.
Furthermore, the researchers observed that adjusting the backpack so that it rests between the mid back and lower back causes less discomfort than centering the weight of the bag higher or lower on the spine.
