Fascia Has A Role In Back Pain
Myofascial tissue is a type of thin, strong, fibrous connective tissue that extends throughout the body and provides support and protection to muscles and bones. In a recent study involving five patients with non-specific low back pain (NSLBP), researchers observed that manipulative therapy to painful fascial regions in areas near the lower back resulted in a reduction in back pain among the participants. The findings suggest that dysfunction of myofascial tissue in neighboring parts of the body could contribute to NSLBP, which highlights the importance of examining the whole patient and not just the area of chief concern, something doctors of chiropractic are trained to do during a patient examination.
