Proprioception Altered Among Those With Severe Chronic Back Pain

Proprioception is the body's ability to sense where its various parts are in relation to one another for purposes of movement and balance. In this study, 25 patients with chronic low back pain in Fanwood and 25 individuals without a history of back pain engaged in a series of assessments that revealed that those with back pain exhibited abnormal lumbar proprioception. Past research has shown that when proprioception is impaired, the body may have a reduced ability to maintain posture and balance.
