Commonly Prescribed Anti-Inflammatories May Increase Diabetes Risk

According to a study involving 16 healthy male adults, taking a 10-15 mg dose of a glucocorticoid for one week can negatively impact blood sugar regulation in the body, which researchers hypothesize could increase the risk for diabetes with long-term use. Study author Dr. Riccardo Pofi writes, "This [research] suggests that we need to more accurately assess [glucocorticoid] use in patients to prevent and reduce the undesired effects, especially in patients for which steroid treatment is essential for life."
