Chiropractor Fanwood Discusses The Benefits of Carb-Restriction For A Fatty Liver
Carb-Restricted Diet May Benefit Patients with Fatty Liver Disease
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) occurs when excess fat builds up in the liver cells from causes other than excessive alcohol consumption.
In this study, researchers found that when participants with NAFLD adopted a low-carbohydrate diet, they experienced a reduction in the expression of genes involved in fatty acid synthesis and an increase in the expression of genes involved in metabolism and fatty acid oxidation.
Researcher Dr. Adil Mardinoglu adds, "A carbohydrate-restricted dietary intervention such as the one we used can be an efficient treatment strategy for a severe health problem."
