Another Reason to Eat Fish During Pregnancy in Fanwood
Women in Fanwood may be able to aid the development of their unborn child's eyesight and brain function by eating more fish.
A study that included 56 mothers and their children revealed that infants whose moms ate fish three or more times a week during the last trimester of their pregnancy scored higher on visual function and cognitive assessments than those with moms who ate two or fewer servings of fish per week in the final trimester of their pregnancy.
Study leader Dr. Kirsi Laitinen adds, "The results of our study suggest that frequent fish consumption by pregnant women is of benefit for their unborn child's development. This may be attributable to long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids within fish, but also due to other nutrients like vitamin D and E, which are also important for development."
