Metabolic syndrome is closely linked to obesity and is described as a cluster of conditions-increased blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride levels-that elevates a person's risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. A review of data from the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study involving over 5,000 adults revealed that participants who consumed four or more servings of fruit per day were nearly 50% less likely to develop metabolic syndrome than those who ate one or fewer servings of fruit per day.
