Electronic Device Use Places Added Pressure On The Cervical Joints

Past research has shown that looking downward at screens and electronic devices places added stress on the posterior neck and shoulder muscles, increasing the risk for neck pain. In this study, investigators looked at the effects of neck flexion on the cervical joints of eight healthy men and found that bending the neck forward 45 degrees doubled the compressive forces on the cervical disks and resulted in a four-fold increase in shear forces on the upper cervical joints-both of which may lead to joint injury or arthritis. The findings highlight the importance of good posture to maintain the health of the cervical spine. Posture retraining is an important management service provided by Doctors of chiropractic in Fanwood.
