Excess Weight Gain & Back Pain During Pregnancy

Among a group of 330 women who had persistent low back and pelvic pain during pregnancy, researchers found that just over a third (34.1%) still had such issues four months following the birth of their child. Further analysis showed that the risk for persistent low back and pelvic pain postpartum was 2.77 times greater in the women who gained more than 33 lbs. (~15 kg) during pregnancy than in those who gained less than 22 lbs. (~9.9 kg). The study shows that excessive weight gain during pregnancy is a risk factors of persistent low back pain and pelvic pain.
