Could Your Heart Rate Indicate Your Lifespan?
New research suggests that a patient's resting heart rate at age fifty could indicate if they have an elevated risk for death before age 70. In the study, which used data concerning 800 men born in 1943, researchers observed that those with a resting heart rate of 55 beats per minute (bpm) or lower were about twice as likely to survive to age 70 as participants with a resting heart rate of 75 bpm or more.
