Musicians Often Suffer from Musculoskeletal Pain

An investigation of the prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms among symphony orchestra musicians revealed that musicians at this level experience almost twice as many musculoskeletal symptoms in the neck and upper extremities as non-musicians of the same age, with female musicians at an even greater risk than male musicians.

Based on these findings, the research team notes the importance of focusing on recovery between performances as well as instituting prevention programs to reduce the risk of injury.
