Neck Tendonitis Can Cause Dizziness

Neck Tendonitis Can Cause Dizziness

In this case study, a 38-year-old man presented for care due to dizziness, palpitations, and numbness in the hands. With the aid of MRI, the patient's doctor diagnosed him with tendonitis of the longus colli muscle. This muscle lies anterior to the cervical spine and can contribute to acute posterior neck pain, neck stiffness, and trouble with speaking and swallowing when tendonitis is present. The patient's symptoms resolved within a week of proper treatment. The authors of this case report note that vertigo caused by longus colli tendinitis is under-reported and thus misdiagnosis is common, which leads to unnecessary interventions for those with vertigo.
