Chiropractor Fanwood Explains Pelvic Tilt and Lower Back Pain
Among a group of 60 young adults in Fanwood, either with or without low back pain, researchers found a statistically significant relationship between anterior (front) pelvic tilt and both increased lumbar lordosis (curvature) and lower back pain.
Overly tight hip flexors-the muscles that connect the lower spine to the legs-can tilt the pelvis excessively forward, which can increase the lumbar lordosis and raise the risk for lower back pain.
Doctors of chiropractic are trained to assess pelvic tilt when evaluating a patient with lower back pain and if pelvic tilt is a contributing factor, they can help patients by releasing and stretching the muscles involved.
This research comes to us from the Journal of Back and Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation, March 2017.
