Resveratrol May Lower Blood Pressure
Resveratrol is an antioxidant found in many fruits, such as blueberries and red grapes, which has received a lot of attention in recent years. In a new study, researchers observed that adding resveratrol to the diet of mice oxidized a protein called PKG1a, which led to a relaxing of the blood vessels and a reduction in blood pressure. The research team notes that this finding is counterintuitive-in the sense that resveratrol is believed to be an antioxidant-but these findings show that it behaves like an oxidant in order to help lower blood pressure.
