In my office, I get a lot of drivers
that come into the office. All sorts of
drivers. People that do Uber delivery
local delivery long, short hall, long
haul, trucks, big trucks, smaller vans.
And there’s two constants with this
profession that I typically see in my
office as far as neck and back pain.
Number one, people that are seated for
long periods of time, driving five, six,
seven, eight, nine, 10 hours a day, the
seated position in itself is not really
productive for a healthy spine. We’re
not designed to sit that well. Can cause
neck pain, back pain, shoulder aches,
all the sore can happen. And the second
factor, and people, this is one thing
that’s overlooked by most people, is the
vibration of the road. Depending upon,
you know, what kind of road surface
you’re driving on, it could be really
bumpy. It could be a little arduous
going over certain areas where there’s
bumps in the road or cracks in the road.
And this creates a lot of back and forth
motion where there’s a lot of uh
jostling of the spine. But the vibration
of itself sends a lot of shock into the
spine as well. And that wears on our
discs and our muscles and our joints
over time. So one of the things that we
talk about a lot in my office is
ergonomics. making sure everything is
set up properly to minimize as much
shock and stress on the spine. And the
other thing we talk about is the fact
that you need to take periodic breaks.
Like we said before, you’re not designed
to sit that long. Getting up, stretching
your neck, stretching your shoulders,
stretching your back, but taking a short
walk. And it doesn’t have to be long
either. Just kind of moving a little bit
to kind of combat all that sitting
posture. These are small tips. Also,
staying hydrated as well. That will help
keeping everything your muscles, your
discs are composed of a lot of water and
it’s important that they stay hydrated.
And for people that have acute or
chronic pain, maybe you carry a small
cooler with you, a small ice pack. You
put that in your back, your neck, your
shoulders while you’re driving, if
you’re driving for long distance for
long times. Chiropractic is very
beneficial for this type of person that
has these ailments with their neck and
the back due to driving conditions. If
