Hey there, and welcome back. I’m Doctor Eric Chludzinski, and you’re listening to the Fanwood Back Relief Center podcast. I’m so glad you’re here today, because we’re going to talk about something that affects just about everyone at some point in their lives. Back pain. And more importantly, how to stop it before it starts.

Now, here’s the thing. Most people think back pain just happens to them. Like it comes out of nowhere. But the truth is, a lot of the back pain we see in the office is the result of small daily habits, repeated over and over again, that slowly add up to a real problem. The good news? That means small daily habits can also prevent it. And that’s exactly what we’re going to dig into today.

Let’s start with something you’re probably doing right now. Sitting. Most of us sit for hours every single day. At a desk, in a car, on the couch. And when we sit with poor posture, we put a tremendous amount of pressure on the lower back. The spine is meant to have a natural curve to it. When we slump forward, that curve gets lost, and the muscles, discs, and joints all start to work harder than they should.

Here’s what I want you to try. Every hour, get up and move for just two or three minutes. Walk to the kitchen. Do a quick stretch. Roll your shoulders back. It doesn’t have to be complicated. That simple break gives your spine a chance to reset and takes the pressure off the structures that have been holding you up all day. Small habit, big difference.

Now, here’s something I hear a lot in the office. People say their back went out just from bending down to pick something up. And I always say, that was the last straw, not the only straw. What actually happened is that the body was already stressed and tight, and that one movement pushed it over the edge. That’s where movement and flexibility come in.

Gentle daily stretching, especially for the hips and hamstrings, takes a huge amount of tension off the lower back. Your hamstrings connect to your pelvis, and when they’re tight, they pull on the pelvis, which shifts the whole alignment of your spine. Even five to ten minutes of gentle stretching each morning can make a real difference over time. You don’t need a gym. You don’t need equipment. Just a little floor space and consistency.

Let me break this down for you with one more big one. Core strength. Now, when most people hear core, they think crunches. But your core is so much more than that. It’s the deep muscles that wrap around your spine and hold it stable. When those muscles are weak, your spine has to work overtime just to keep you upright. Exercises like gentle bridges, bird dogs, and modified planks can build that support system without putting stress on your back. If you’re not sure where to start, that’s exactly the kind of thing we can help guide you through.

So what can you do starting today? First, break up your sitting every hour. Second, add some gentle stretching to your morning routine, even just a few minutes. And third, start building core strength with low-impact exercises. Those three habits alone can go a long way toward keeping your back healthy.

Now, if you’re already dealing with some discomfort, or if you’ve been living with nagging back pain that just won’t quit, I want you to know that you don’t have to just push through it. At Fanwood Back Relief Center, we offer chiropractic care, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, intersegmental traction therapy, and wellness care, all designed to help your spine move and feel the way it’s supposed to.
