Nerve Injuries Due To Auto Accidents

nerve injury is often missed or
misdiagnosed when a patient’s involved
in a car accident and suffers a whiplash
injury just to recall a whiplash injury
is the most common injury involved with
a car accident typically either front
end collision or rear end collision your
body snaps forward and back quickly
causing damages uh to the soft tissues
of the neck and upper back uh it’s
common seen in my office when patients
are in car accidents and there’s
different grades or levels of the actual
whip lash injury grade one is where the
patient will experience tenderness pain
on palpation uh some soreness in the
neck maybe some headaches maybe some
soreness in the upper back grade two is
where there’s a loss of range of motion
normal range of motion they can’t turn
their head they can’t tilt their head
because it’s too uncomfortable grade
three is where we start to see nerve
deficit where we have uh motor strength
loss sensory loss and grade four is
where there’s um some sort of
dislocation or fracture of some of the
bones in the neck without spinal cord
injury so there’s different grades grade
two is the most common we see in our
office where the patient has pain uh
tenderness and loss of range of motion
um what’s interesting enough that some
of the research is showing that these
gray twos can become grade threes it
could affect the nerve over time if it’s
not treated properly with any type of
whiplash injury timing is so important
it’s very important that you get x-rated
initially after the accident and
treatment recovery
uh Rehabilitation starts immediately uh
this will help to delay any type of
healing process and prevent it from
getting much much worse so remember if
you are in a car accident if you think
you may suffer from Whiplash get x-rayed
immediately get active treatment
