why prolonged sitting is bad for your
health, bad for your spine and what you
can do to counteract it. Number one,
sitting longterm for your work or just
spending time on the computer at home or
even, you know, just sitting on the sofa
is bad for your your overall health. Why
is that? Well, when we’re sitting, we’re
not burning as many calories. Our
posture tends to not to be there the
best. The blood flow and the nutrient
exchange is not the same as standing or
walking. So it does not improve our
health and it’s part of a sedentary
lifestyle which can lead to metabolic
syndromes like obesity and diabetes
stuff like that. So it’s important to
note that also when you’re sitting
there’s more pressure on your discs on
your spine those shock absor absorbers
of spinal discs between the bones
there’s more compressive loading forces
on them than standing and of course
laying down is much less. So, we want to
try to do is avoid the sitting position
prolonged. Some of the things that you
can do if you do have to sit for work
and you can’t get a standing desk. I
would take breaks, get up, walk around,
stretch, try to do your best to maintain
a good upright position with your chest
up and your shoulders back rather than
this slouch position where your head
comes forward puts a lot of stress and
strain on your spine. Abnormal stresses.
Focusing on the posture is important.
One of the things that can help, uh, I
find that a lot of patients, uh, one of
those little rolls you can put behind
your back to help push your spine up to
have you sit more erect when you’re
having to stand sit for long periods of
time. So, taking breaks, improving
posture, changing ergonomics are all
very crucial if you have a job that
requires you to sit for long periods of
time. Of course, if you’re having pain,
don’t ignore it. Uh, if your lower back
is extremely tight when you try to get
up, is it difficult to get up? Of
course, if you’re getting any type of
pain into your buttocks, hips, or legs,
this is a sign that something else more
serious is going on. If you’re looking
for help on how you can counteract some
of these things with proper spinal
adjustments, proper spinal alignment,
