What does the chiropractic adjustment
do? I get this asked in my office almost
every single day. And the way I explain
it is twofold. The chiropractic
adjustment puts motion into the areas of
the spine that are not moving properly
within the joints. This happens when you
get injured. The joints get locked down.
It creates inflammation and starts to
affect everything surrounding that area.
So looking for the areas that are not
moving properly and restoring proper
motion is the first step of what the
chiropractic adjustment does. The second
step is working with the alignment, the
posture, making sure that the hips are
balanced, that the hips are not rotated,
that the spine’s not unlevel, shoulders
higher than another. These imbalances
from left to right, from top to bottom,
create asymmetries and put undue
pressure or loading on certain areas of
the spine and creates stress for the
joint. The joint can’t function properly
again creating inflammation. when it
gets really bad, it can get into the
nerve, irritate the nerve, and cause
pain to travel down the arms, down the
leg. So, that’s what the chiropractic
adjustment does. It works to improve
proper joint mechanics. In other words,
putting proper motion into an area
that’s not moving properly. And the
chiropractic adjustment improves
alignment and posture, allowing your
body to properly heal. These two things
allow your body to work most
efficiently, and that’s what we want to
do to set the stage for the person to
properly heal. If you’re dealing with
any type of neck pain, back pain,
headaches, whatever it is, the
principles are going to remain the same.
I’m going to look for areas of the spine
that are not moving properly. Restore
proper motion, restore proper alignment
to allow your body to properly heal
whatever the orthopedic condition is
that you come into my office with.
